Pedaling Through Struggles and Overcoming Cancer: A Tearful Farewell to Deepika Ma'am, Who Nurtured Thousands Like a Mother!
N7 News Voice | Nagpur:
Storms visit everyone's life, but a rare few stand tall against the gales, transforming their own lives into a beacon of hope for others. The inspiring journey of teacher Mrs. Deepika Devendra Dhoble (Tupker) is one such story—a tale so deeply moving that it commands respect and brings a lump to one's throat.
On August 3, 2026, the main hall of Bharatiya Krushi Vidyalaya & Junior College, Zingabai Takli, usually alive with the cheerful chatter of students, felt unusually still. A quiet, emotional atmosphere hung over the crowd as everyone looked around for their beloved teacher. After 35 long years of shaping young minds, today was Deepika Ma'am's retirement farewell.
From Gandhibagh to School: A Bicycle Bell and Rain-Soaked Days
It all began in 1991, when she started teaching on a clock-hour basis for a meager stipend. Money was scarce, but her passion for teaching was limitless. Rain, scorching summer heat, or bone-chilling winter mornings—nothing stopped her from making the long, strenuous journey on her simple bicycle from Gandhibagh to Zingabai Takli every single day.
There were days when the bike chain snapped, her legs ached, or blisters formed on her feet. Yet, the moment she reached the school gate and saw the smiling faces of her students, every bit of fatigue dissolved into thin air. In 1994, her service was made permanent. She didn't just teach lessons from textbooks; she showered every child—no matter how underprivileged—with the unconditional warmth of a mother.
The Dreaded News of 2009: "It's Cancer!"
Life was moving along smoothly until fate struck a devastating blow in 2009. Doctors delivered a heartbreaking diagnosis: Cancer.
Her family was shaken, and her colleagues wept in despair. Painful chemotherapy sessions, waning physical strength, and hair loss—anyone else might have surrendered to the bed. But Deepika Ma'am was carved out of stronger resilience. Though tears may have fallen when she faced the mirror, she refused to let her spirit break.
Even while enduring the severe agony of chemo, with her body aching, her thoughts remained anchored to one place: "I need to go to school; my children are waiting for me!" With sheer willpower, she defeated the dreadful illness, returning to the classroom with a piece of chalk in hand. Honoring her remarkable courage and dedication, she was promoted to the position of Supervisor in 2019.
A Blessing Hand on Her Head and a Room Full of Choked Emotions
During the farewell ceremony, when the Society's President, Mr. Balasaheb Pannase, placed a fatherly hand of blessing on her head and honored her with a traditional shawl and memento, thunderous applause filled the hall. Yet beneath the applause, a wave of muffled sobs echoed through the audience as teachers and former students wiped away tears.
An alumnus stepped up to the microphone, his voice trembling: "Ma'am, when my family was going through the toughest financial hardship, the comfort you gave me and that reassuring pat on my back are things I will never forget in this lifetime." As he broke down, there wasn't a dry eye left among the parents and teachers present.
Responding to the honor, tears flowed freely down Deepika Ma'am's face as well. With hands trembling slightly, she recited a poem she had written herself, leaving the hall spellbound:
"No matter how immense the hardships in life, never lose your resolve... No matter how fiercely the storm blows, never let the flame of self-confidence flicker out within you. Live every single day with gratitude and positivity as a gift from above!"
An Immortal Light of Compassion
In those tender moments, Secretary Rakesh Pannase, Treasurer Pragya Pannase, Director Tirthraj Pannase, Principal Archana Pannase, former Headmaster Liladhar Dhaf, chief guests Sharda Dhaf and Alka Bhoyar, Headmistress Ranjana Pendam, anchor Manoj Mahalle, and Vinod Pawar (who delivered the vote of thanks) were all deeply moved.
The ceremony drew to a close, the lights dimmed, and everyone headed home. Yet, in those school corridors, the faint ring of Deepika Ma'am's bicycle bell, her gentle touch of affection in the classrooms, and the timeless values she instilled in thousands of children will remain immortal.
Deepika Ma'am... all of Nagpur bows down in heartfelt reverence to your 35 years of selfless dedication and motherly care!
